Make-a-Workout-More-Enjoyable-The-Way-Family-DojoSticking to a consistent routine might be a mental battle if you struggle with seeing your workouts as something you get to do (rather than something you have to do). But if your workouts become a way to improve your health and have fun, then you might look forward to your next workout.

Here are some ways to make a workout more enjoyable:

1. Get a workout buddy.

One way to make your workouts more enjoyable is to recruit a workout buddy or two. Rather than feeling like you’re on a fitness journey all by yourself, a workout buddy is a great way to add in some much-needed support and accountability.

2. Set SMART goals.

Goals are another great way to make your workouts more enjoyable. Take some time to define your fitness goals using the SMART goal framework: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Based. Goals are not only motivating, but they can also make your workout mindset more positive if you feel like you’re working toward something that matters to you.

3. Form a consistent habit.

Let’s face it, waking up every day and trying to convince yourself to work out is not all that enjoyable. One alternative is to stick with a workout routine long enough that you form a habit. Once your routine becomes a habit, you don’t have to think about when you’re going to work out. You just show up and do it!

4. Try something new.

Another way to make a workout more enjoyable is to try something new. If you’re not crazy about running, then look for another workout that you enjoy. There are so many options available. Keep mixing things up until you find something that’s fun.

5. Track your progress.

Being able to see your progress over time is another way to make your workouts more enjoyable. If you feel stuck or like you’re not getting any results, it’s hard to motivate yourself to keep training. But if you keep a record of your workouts, then you have a tangible account of all the work you’ve put into your workouts. And you’re more likely to stay motivated and feel excited about continuing that hard work.

6. Keep your workouts short (but intense).

Working out doesn’t have to look like spending two hours in the gym. You can get an effective workout in 30 minutes! The key is having an experienced instructor lead you through an effective, high-intensity workout. If you’re new to high-intensity workouts, make sure you check in with your doc and take things slowly at first. Give your body a chance to adapt to the higher intensities.

7. Recognize the benefits.

You can also make your workouts more enjoyable by recognizing the benefits you gain from your time spent training. Reflect on all the great things that come from your workouts – improved health, less stress, more energy, a stronger body, improved confidence, and better sleep are just a few of the benefits you gain from training consistently.
